The limpets are found on rocks or other hard surfaces. They are well adapted to a life in the intertidal zone, due to their ability to maintain humidity under the shell during hours of low tide. Adults do not have an operculum (lid) to cover the aperture (opening). The shells are conical, without whorls.
Limpets move around in search for food, but tend to return to their home base. Their life span is known to last for as much as 16 years.
