Distribution: This scallop thrives on gravel or rocky substrate, all along the Norwegian coast, preferably deeper than 15 meters.

Characteristics: It does not grow as big as the great scallop. The diameter is usually not more than 6 cm. The shell has 5-9 very coarse ridges radiating from the dorsal margin. The shell is often red on the upper side and light grey on the other.
