Distribution: The corkwing wrasse (also known as Crenilabrus melops) is common along the coast of Norway, as far North as the the Trondheim fjord. It can be found just below the tidal zone during summer time, and a little deeper, 15 - 30 meters during the winter. It often seeks shelter among seaweeds.

Characteristics:  This wrasse does not exceed a length of 30 cm. The color varies with season. The male is usually brown with light green or blue blotches. The head has clear blue or turquoise lines on a reddish brown base. A kidney shaped, dark spot is often seen behind the eyes. The female is usually reddish brown, but lacking the green and blue coloration.
