Distribution: The pogge is a common inhabitant amongst algae or on sandy bottoms along the entire Norwegian coast. It is usually found on depths between 5 and 20 meters, but is known to migrate far deeper during the winter.

Characteristics: This scorpion fish can hardly be confused with any other specie, due the large number of barbels under the somewhat flattened head. It has massive spines on the snout. Eight rows of spines run along the body from the head to the tail fin. It may grow to a length of 20 cm.
