Distribution: This right eyed flounder is common on sandy bottoms all along the Norwegian coast. It can be found on any depth from the tidal zone and down to 150 meters. It tolerates low salinity well.

Characteristics: The common dab may reach a length of 40 cm and a weight of 1,5 kg. The color is sandy brown, usually with a large number light and dark blotches. It may sometimes be confused with the plaice due to the rust-colored spots, but can be distinguished from this by the lateral line which is curved around the upper pectoral fin.
