Distribution: This Epimeriidae family is dominating the amphipods on the northern as well as on the southern hemisphere. E. cornigera is common along the entire Norwegian coast. It is usually found feeding on hydroids on depths below 30 meters.

Characteristics: Similar to S. latipes, but has a more distinct and pointed dorsal keel on the last three segments. The back is strongly curved. The second pair of antennae is slightly longer than the first pair. The red tinted body is not reported to exceed a length of 16 mm.
