Distribution: This is the only member of the Munida genus that can be seen in shallow waters along the Norwegian coast. It has been observed as far north as southern parts of Troms. The two other Munida members are only reported deeper than 50 metes. The rugose squat lobster is usually seen on rocky or sandy substrate on depths between 8 and 30 meters.
Characteristics: The rugose squat lobster is easily identified by the long, white tipped, claws. The color is brown or orange. The body can reach a length of 10 cm when the abdomen is extended.
