Distribution: Balanus balanus is distributed over the entire northern hemisphere. Adults live attached. to rocks, stones, shells or any other hard surface on depths between 2 and several hundred meters.
Characteristics: The diameter is usually 2-3 cm but individuals with a diameter of 5 cm as been observed. The cover plates look like a birds beak.
