Phylum: Cnidaria
Class: Hydrozoa
Order: Anthoathecata
Suborder: Capitata
Family: Corymorphidae
Scientific name: Corymorpha nutans
Norwegian: -
(Stord - Hordaland / 12 meters / 4.27.2004)
Distribution: I have observations and pictures of C. nutans from the island Hitra at the coast of Trøndelag. According to the literature it is only found from Østfold to Hordaland (south and west coast of Norway) and from Helgeland to Nordkapp (northern parts of Norway), suggesting a discontinuous north-south distribution. Finding the species at Hitra, indicates that this is not so. It can probably be found along the entire coast, all the way to Nordkapp.
Characteristics: The stem is quite thick and partly transparent with fine longitudinal lines. The polyp is light red. It can grow to a length of 10-15 cm.
