Distribution: The northern sea urchin is found widespread on the northern hemisphere, from the tidal zone and down to a depth of 1200 meters.

Characteristics: This medium sized, regular sea urchin may reach a diameter of 8 cm. The profile is flattened. The shell and spine color is usually white, green or brown. The primary and secondary spines are of approximately the same lengths.
