Distribution: A. irregularis can be found on locations with sand or gravel anywhere along the Norwegian coast, as far north as western parts of Finnmark. The best chance to find it seems to be between 10 and 30 meters, but it has been registered as deep as 1000 meters.

Characteristics: This sand star can reach a diameter of 20 cm. The five arms are short and the flattened body seems stiff when touching it. It comes in shades of pink or pale orange. The under surface is light beige or white. The arms are edged by clearly visible plates, contributing to its distinct appearance.
